Description
'Moon over Durdle Door' is a landscape photograph captured at the iconic coastal landmark of 'Durdle Door' found along the Jurassic coastline of the Dorset coast. You could smell the salt on the air as I descended the two hundred or so steps to the shoreline down the cliff face from the car park last Monday evening. As I reached the far end of the stony beach after trudging through with tripod and camera in hand I turned to view the magnificent rock formation known as Durdle Door or to some, the dragon of the sea. As I set up to capture this well known Dorset landmark the moon appeared from behind the wispy clouds lighting the way. In the distance the sun had set over Portland leaving the moon to bathe the coastline in glorious soft moonlight. There are some days that photographs take themselves and I was grateful for an empty memory card and plenty of batteries for the camera. The Jurassic coastline of the Dorset coast is world famous for its Dinosaur and fossil history with many fossils still found on the beaches today but there is something extra special when its bathed in moonlight and you can just enjoy the calmness of the sea and the tranquillity of the moment. It was a great time to be with the camera and well worth the climb back to the car park to get one of my personal favourite images of the trip.
